WASCRG RACE MEETING HELD ON SATURDAY 13-5-17

Hello everybody, we had 14 determined slot car stalwarts turn up for the latest round of the 2017 season and the first class raced was NSR Historic Nascars. This was followed by the Ninco GT Enduro round and we again saw some extremely close racing and some major incidents throughout the field in both classes. The enduro round turned out to be a ripper with the top three place finishers on the same lap after 24 minutes of racing, incredible.

NSR HISTORIC LEMANS:

The A Main was again a very tight affair this time between Nic, Chris Daryl and Matt with the wheel of fortune turning in Nic’s favour this time, although he did enjoy a small speed advantage over the rest of the field. Chris finished a solid second with Daryl finishing third after a couple of de-slots. Matt rounded out the top four after coming off second best in a couple of racing incidents. Simon also has another good drive to finish fifth after just missing out on the A Main. Full race results can be viewed at the top of the page.

HALF TIME BREAK:

Syd kindly put and some very tasty pies and sausage rolls which were very much appreciated by a multitude of hungry racers. Congratulation to this rounds raffle winners who won various sets of MJK tyres.

NINCO GT:

The Ninco enduro round turned out to be a real cracker with Peter H winning after a superb drive with his new Gulf Mosler. Daryl finished a very close second after another stellar drive with his special home produced tyres provided him with superb grip levels. Matt put in another solid drive to finish a credible third, whilst Chris finished a distant fourth after suffering from some bad handling issues. Nic and Steven also had a close tussle with Nic finishing fifth half a lap ahead of Steven by the race end. The full race results can be viewed at the top of the page.

NOTABLE EVENTS ON THE NIGHT:

Congratulations to Nic on his solid win in the NSR Lemans class. Although the opposition has closed the gap on him, he still appears to have a small edge in this category. Congrats also to Peter H who put in a stonking drive to just beat Daryl in the Ninco GT enduro. The fact that Peter H, Daryl and Matt all finished on the same lap is a testament to how close the racing in this club has become.

Please feel free to comment on any relevant issues as every body’s opinions counts in this club and it is good to hear other people’s opinions from time to time.

NEXT MEETING:

The next race meeting will be held on Saturday May 27th 2017 and involve SCX Pro Nascar and Ninco GT.  It should be another riveting round of racing and I am really looking forward to it.

Cheers,

Chris.

WASCRG RACE MEETING HELD ON SATURDAY 29-4-17

WASCRG Meeting: 29/04/17

13 racers showed up for this round featuring the Pioneer muscle cars and NSR Classic Le Mans enduro. Before I go any further, I hope that everyone has seen the pics of Mike’s new track. Syd has done a fantastic job as usual with the track build and Mike has done equally as well with the scenery. Well done guys!

Pioneer American Classic

It was a case of three wheelin’ for several competitors in this class who lost tyres or entire wheels during heats and mains races, shaking up the results a bit. Clearly there is a bit more fine tuning required to finesse these machines. Nevertheless there was close racing at all ends of the field resulting in positions being determined by keeping your car in the slot and being more consistent than the guy next to you.

It was Peter Worth who showed everyone the way by becoming the first driver to post a time in the 6.8 sec bracket. A phenomenal drive with these cars. Unfortunately, a couple of de-slots in the B Mains meant he missed the step up; however he finished a very credible 5th for the evening.

Tony Mallinson followed closely behind in 6th overall, posting a fastest time in the low 6.9 sec bracket. I think with a few more laps, Tony will be making some of the usual suspects further up the board a little nervous. His driving was spot on this round.

As it stands, 5 points separates the top three. Further down the list Tony Mallinson and Stewart Hutchinson are tied on 100 points and Peter Hagerty and Mike Fuller tied on 84 points showing there’s still a lot to race for even in the lower placings.

NSR Le Mans (Enduro round)

Consistency counted for everything this round, a de-slot being very costly indeed. In addtion, the new sector timing system was rolled out for this race and it worked flawlessly. This will certainly help enduro rounds to run faster and smoother from now on.

Running clockwise first up, Nick Cochrane dominated in his usual fashion. He’s really got that car dialled in and had a good rhythm all night. Matt, Mickey and Chris tussled over the minor placings with all three being within half a lap of each other after 4 heats.

Anti-clockwise upset a few competitors resulting in a few more de-slots. The low grip of the track for the first few heats caught out a few people whilst the quality of the marshalling helped determine a few drivers final positions further down the field as well. A quick reminder guys, marshall how you’d want to be marshalled. Even in the enduro rounds.

The combined score for the round are available at the top of the pages.

Additional

Its been discussed amongst club members about changing a few procedures:

  1. Restarts – Its been proposed that the restart rule be changed from the current 3 restarts then race on regardless to 2 restarts only, the third start being conclusive regardless of any on track incidents. There seems to be some confusion about the restart rule so we wish to clarify it.
  2. Warm up/ pre race – Some competitors sand their tyres, then do 5 warm up laps, then sand the tyres again before being ready to race. This is holding up your fellow competitors as well as being perceived by some as an unfair advantage. The proposal is you may sand your tyres then put your car on the track. From this point you may complete 1 lap of the track only back to the start line. After you have placed your car on the track, you may not remove it again. This includes between restarts; that is no sanding of tyres will be permitted between restarts. The obvious exception to this rule is if your car suffers a technical malfunction; then you may either elect to repair or replace it at that time.

Please add your thoughts in the comments section so we can amend the competition rules accordingly.

Cheers,

Simon

WASCRG RACE MEETING HELD ON SATURDAY 15-4-17

Hello everybody, we had 16 determined slot car racers turn up for the latest round of the 2017 season and the first class raced was Pioneer classic cars. This was followed by Slot it Lemans and we again saw some extremely close racing and some major incidents  throughout the field in both classes.

PIONEER CLASSIC CARS:

The A Main was a very tight affair between Syd, Daryl and Chris with the wheel of fortune finally turning in Syd’s favour. Daryl finished a solid second with Chris finishing third after his race was compromised by the forces of darkness. He did however manage to get the fastest lap on the night with a 6.986.  Nic, who also had a few issues came a valiant fourth. Matt also endured a very frustrating race after the General Lee was taken out on several occasions during the heats.  Full race results can be viewed at the top of the page.

HALF TIME BREAK:

In a brilliant move Syd ordered in some really tasty Pizza for the half time break and this was much appreciated by everyone. Congratulation to this rounds raffle winners who won various sets of MJK tyres.

SLOT IT LEMANS:

The Slot it Lemans round was again a highly competitive affair with Matt eventually taking out a fine win. He also set the fastest time of 6.401 on the night. Chris finished a solid second with Nic finishing in a credible third place.  Steven had a great run coming from the D Main all the way to the A Main, so congratulations on his great effort. The full race results can be viewed at the top of the page.

NOTABLE EVENTS ON THE NIGHT:

Congratulations to Syd on his hard earned win in the Pioneer round, he finally enjoyed a bit of good fortune for a change. We also saw another great drive from Matt to win the Slot it A Main after Chris tried unsuccessfully to put him under pressure. A number of racers also suffered wheel failures in the Pioneer round and Syd has come up with the following solution.  It has been decided to purchase a bulk load of rear alloy rims by the club.  Then every member will be offered a set for their Pioneer car at a set price to eliminate this problem.

Please feel free to comment on any relevant issues as every body’s opinions counts in this club and it is good to hear other people’s opinions from time to time.

NEXT MEETING:

The next race meeting will be held on Saturday April 29th 2017 and involve Pioneer Classic Cars and NSR Lemans.  Please note that he NSR Lemans race is an enduro round. It should be another riveting round of racing and I am really looking forward to it.

Cheers,

Chris.

Hello everybody, we had 15 determined slot car pilgrims turn up for the latest round of the 2017 season and the first class raced was SCX Pro Nascar. This was followed by Ninco GT and we again saw some extremely close racing throughout the field especially in the Ninco GT round.

SCX PRO NASCAR:

This one again turned into a huge battle between Nic and Chris with Nic eventually winning the A Main after Chris was yet again denied by racing incidents. Peter H was a credible third with Mickey finishing fourth. Full race results can be viewed at the top of the page.

HALF TIME BREAK:

Syd again put on a really tasty sausage sizzle which was enjoyed by everybody. Thanks again Syd for another fine effort, which is much appreciated by everyone. Congratulation to this rounds raffle winners who won various sets of MJK tyres.

NINCO GT:

The Ninco GT round was again a highly competitive affair with the top 8 drivers all in with a serious chance of winning this round. The B Main was actually more intense than the A Main with Daryl just managing to pip Steven to make his way through to the A Main. Once there Daryl used his new tyres to full effect to win the A Main from Nic who finished a solid second.  Matt finished third with Chris bringing up the rear. The full race results can be viewed at the top of the page.

NOTABLE EVENTS ON THE NIGHT:

Congratulations to Nic on his hard earned win in the Scx Nascar round and now appears to be in the box seat to win this particular championship, despite the best efforts of Chris to stop him. Congratulations also to Daryl who had a breakthrough win in the Ninco GT event. This was achieved after coming from the B Main, which was a brilliant race to watch. This championship is still very much up for grabs where a little bit of overall luck is going to play a big part in the eventual outcome.

Please feel free to comment on any relevant issues as every body’s opinions counts in this club and it is good to hear other people’s opinions from time to time.

WASCRG RACE MEETING HELD ON SATURDAY 4-3-17

Ninco GT race sheet 4-3-17

NSR Lemans race sheet 4-3-17

Hello everybody, we had 18 determined racers turn up for the latest round of the 2017 season and the first class raced was NSR Classic Lemans. This was raced in the clockwise direction and was followed by Ninco GT which was raced in the traditional anti clockwide direction. We again saw some very close racing throughout the field in both classes.

NSR CLASSIC LEMANS:

Racing was very tight again in this superb slot car class. The A Main was a really hard fought affair with both Matt and Chris finishing on the same points. However Matt won by posting the fastest time of 6.271. Nic finished a solid third whilst Peter H rounded out the top four. Full race results can be viewed at the top of the page.

HALF TIME BREAK:

Syd again put on a really tasty sausage sizzle which was enjoyed by everybody. Thanks again Syd for another fine effort, which is much appreciated by everyone. Congratulation to this rounds raffle winners who won various set of MJK tyres.

NINCO GT:

The Ninco GT round was a highly competitive affair with the top seven drivers all having seriously competitive cars. Consequently all were in with a realistic chance of taking the major honours.  Syd actually posted the fastest time with a 6.011. In the end Nic prevailed by winning the A Main with 53 points, Steven was a close second with 50 points after a solid drive, whilst Chris was third with 48 points. Matt rounded out the top four with 45 points. The overall result could have been very different had some competitors not been involved in racing incidents.  The full race results can be viewed at the top of the page.

NOTABLE EVENTS ON THE NIGHT:

Congratulations to Matt who survived a big scare from Chris in the NSR Lemans race. He is the ice man a really knows how to win a round. Likewise Nic put in another solid performance to win the Ninco GT round after some serious competition and was all the more impressive since he suffered from hand throttle issues. These two series look like going down to the wire with many competitors having seriously good cars to run.

Please feel free to comment on any relevant issues as every body’s opinions counts in this club and it is good to hear other people’s opinions from time to time.

NEXT MEETING:

The next race meeting will be held on Saturday Mar 18th 2017 and involve Ninco GT and SCX Nascar.  We should again see some more very close racing, I am really looking forward to it.

WASCRG RACE MEETING HELD ON SATURDAY 18-2-17

Pioneer race sheetNSR Lemans race sheet

Racing got away at 6;30 pm on Saturday Night with Pioneer Muscle cars run first. The racing was fast and furious with a few offs and a few wayward wheels still causing a few issues for some. Careful maintenance and a little time spent can save a lot of anguish I have found. I will also make available a loan car that has been “sorted out” on the night for anybody that has issues during racing! The usual suspects were at the top of the pile at the end of racing. Congratulations to you! Welcome to another Peter who will be joining us for racing now. Not a bad effort making it into the B Main on his first outing!

Half time food was the usual sausage, onions and buns. The raffle was won by yours truly, followed by Lee and ?. We had a vote on the direction change for this class and it was a unanimous decision to run this class in the opposite direction for the entire season. We will obviously be running in both directions for the endurance night!

The second half of the night got under way with the NSR Classic Lemans. This is the first time we have run these cars with the MJK tyres and to be honest I don’t think they have made any difference to the times. Admittedly the times were slower but we were running in the opposite direction. All in all a good nights racing! See you all next fortnight for the NSR Classic Lemans and the Ninco GT.

Slot it Clockwise Enduro 4-2-17

Hi All. We had 17 eager racers turn up on Saturday Night for the Slotit Lemans Endurance Race and the 1st race of the Pioneer American Muscle Cars. We had Clive Spreadbury and his son, Jason, ( Scalexworld South Australia) join us for the first half of the evening where they both competed in the Slot it race. I think Clive was suitably impressed with the standard of racing and the facilities of WASCRG! We also had a new starter, Lee, who also enjoyed the nights racing. Considering we were missing a few regulars the racing was rather frantic. Daryl, Simon, Claire and Steven were missing from the racing which gave us some breathing space as far as time went. Even so we didn’t finish to near on midnight.

The first event of the night was the Slotit ( in reverse) and was some rather exciting racing to be had. Nick, usually “King of the Reverse Direction”, was pipped at the post by the ever consistent Matt, even though Nick was faster by nearly a 1/10 of a second he wasn’t as consistent as Matt. Welldone to Micky, who moved up a few notches to get into third position. After running in the opposite direction the track was returned to the normal direction and the class was run again with similar results. Matt again proved why he won this class last year and why he will be the one to beat again, Nick came 2nd followed by Mickey 3rd.! During the race we stopped for a refreshment break and we all enjoyed some barbequed sausages and onions followed by cake to celebrate Clive and Simon’s birthday! ( Sorry Simon we didnt save you any! LOL) We held the usual raffle and we had 1st Mickey 2nd Stewart  and 3rd Ron

After the Slotit race we lost our visitors, Clive and Jason, and Chris and Mike. We ran the Pioneer class for the first time at WASCRG. Apart from some niggling issues with rims coming off, due to poor preparation more than anything else, they exceeded my expectations for lap times and consistency. Nick and Peter both proved hard to beat with Matt coming in a close 3rd. I on the other hand was unlucky not to do better with the said issues costing me a couple of places! Fastest car with the slowest pit crew! Clive found some form with his car to make it all the way through the B Main and be beaten for a place in the A Main by yours truly! Well done Clive.

The next night will be the 21st of February with the Pioneer Muscle Cars and the NSR Classic Lemans so dont forget to change your tyres to MJK tyres otherwise you will not be able to run your car. Cheers Syd

Hello everybody, we had an impressive 16 determined racers turn up for round two of the 2017 season and the two classes raced were SCX Nascar In an enduro format and Slot it Lemans. Unfortunately due to a major computer meltdown we were unable to complete the Slot it Lemans round.  This will now be re-scheduled and run at a future date.

SCX NASCAR:

Racing was very close in stage one of the enduro round with only a few sectors separating Nic and Chris with Daryl not far behind either.  However once we raced in the reverse direction Nic again showed everyone a clean pair of heels to win the event easily. He is still very much the endurance King and drives the track in clockwise directions much better than anyone else. The final top four results were 1st Nic, 2nd Chris, 3rd Daryl and 4th Peter H. Nic also posted the fastest time of the night with a 6.629. Full race results can be viewed at the top of the page.

HALF TIME BREAK:

Syd again put on a really tasty sausage sizzle which was enjoyed by everybody. Thanks again Syd for another fine effort which is much appreciated by everyone. The new first, second and third format for the raffle was held and won this time by Peter H, Clare and ………….. respectively, who all won various sets of tyres, so congratulations to you all on your wins.

SLOT IT LEMANS:

The Slot it Lemans round was Cancelled, due to a computer program error.

NOTABLE EVENTS ON THE NIGHT:

Congratulations to Nic on another stellar performance in the SCX Pro Nascar Endurance round. Whilst the first leg was a pretty close affair he pulled away from the rest of the field in the clockwise direction to take an easy win. Personally I am looking forward to the future enduro rounds involving Slot it Lemans and NSR Classic Lemans, that are more suited to endurance type racing.

Please feel free to comment on any relevant issues as every body’s opinions count in this club and it would be nice to hear other people’s opinions from time to time.

NEXT MEETING:

The next race meeting will be held on Saturday Feb 4th 2017 and involve Slot it Lemans and the new Pioneer muscle cars.  We should again see some more very close racing, I am really looking forward to it.

Cheers,

Chris.

WASCRG RACE MEETING HELD ON SAT 7TH JANUARY 2017

ninco-gt-sheet-7-1-17

Hello everybody, we had 15 enthusiastic racers turn up for round one of 2017 season and the two classes raced were SCX Nascar and Ninco GT.  It turned out to be a very entertaining evening with some really close racing and some big mistakes under pressure in the finals from various competitors. This all bodes well for a very interesting rest of the series.

SCX NASCAR:

Racing was a fierce affair in the SCX Nascar class with close racing throughout both the heats and the mains events. Nic managed to win the A Main from a consistent Peter H. Chris finished third after being involved in a couple of accidents and Syd rounded out the top four. Full race results can be viewed at the top of the page.

HALF TIME BREAK:

We all enjoyed a rather tasty sausage sizzle at half time thanks to yet another fine effort from Syd which was much appreciated by everyone. The new first, second and third format for the raffle was held and won by John, Clive and Ron respectively, who all won various sets of tyres, so congratulations to you all on your wins.

NINCO GT:

This class also produced some very close racing throughout the heats and Main race events due to the reduced voltage. The A Main was won by Matt after a superb driving performance that saw him win 8 races in a row coming from the B Main to take the major honours. Steven had a great race to finish second with the fastest time of the night at 6.055.  Syd was a solid third with Nic rounding out the top four. Full race results can be viewed at the top of this page.

NOTABLE EVENTS ON THE NIGHT:

Congratulations to both Nic and Matt on their respective hard earned A Main wins. Nic drove very consistently to win the SCX Nacar A Main, whilst others made mistakes under pressure. Matt put in a superb driving performance to win both the A and B Main Ninco GT races and will take some beating in futures events. Steven also showed amazing speed with his Mosler to set the fastest time of the night at 6.055. Overall not a bad start to season one of 2017, stay tuned for further developments.

Please feel free to comment on any relevant issues as every body’s opinions count in this club and it would be nice to hear other people’s opinions from time to time.

NEXT MEETING:

The next race meeting will be held on Saturday Jan 30th 2016 and involve SCX Nascar and Slot it Lemans and we should see some more very close racing, I am really looking forward to it.
